Centre for Life Development

 Our Centre for Life Development is the newly rebuilt main campus of HARC

 

 

 

The campus includes:

  • HARC’s administrative offices.
  • A group home for people with developmental disabilities and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • A community center with a commercial kitchen available to community groups of many kinds.
  • An Adult Day Training Facility for people with a variety of disabilities.
  • A variety of educational experiences open to individuals with disabilities, their families, advocates and other service providers. 

 

 

An Adult Day Training Facility for people with a variety of disabilities that incorporates:

  • A retirement program.
  • Vocational Training in areas such as food services, clerical, janitorial and groundkeeping.
  • Daily Living Skill Development.
  • Comprehensive Health and Fitness program.
  • Off-site learning experiences.
  • Enriching Learning Activities, including Art, Music, Dance, Audio/Video Production, Computer Training and an Exercise Room.

The Centre for Life Development incorporates many options and choices for people with disabilities to learn new skills in a supportive environment. In addition to vocational and daily living skills, the Center also offers a wide variety of creative outlets so that people can express themselves and develop new abilities and interests.

Pre-Vocational Training
A variety of vocational skills are taught in an environment that includes real work.

On the job training
CLD has been designed to incorporate a wide variety of real-life training opportunities in training positions involving the dining facility, groundskeeping, janitorial, clerical and elder-care opportunities.

Dining Facility
CLD includes a fully-staffed commercial kitchen and large community center where breakfast, lunch and snacks are served to our clients for free.

Senior Center
CLD offers an inclusive retirement program for seniors including many enriching activities. 

Daily Living Skills
Individuals can learn real-world skills that will increase their independence and open up new doors of opportunity. 

Community Inclusion
A plethora of outings into the community are offered to all individuals. These include volunteer activities such as meals on wheels and a wide variety of enriching experiences where individuals can gain community skills. Fees may apply, depending on the activity involved.

Computer Center
The computer center enables participants a hands-on experience to learn computer skills, including the use of the internet, email and common software programs. 

Creative Arts
A variety of methods are offered for artists to express themselves. Individuals receive instruction in painting, drawing, ceramics, fabric arts, water coloring and also creative writing. All necessary accommodations are provided so that everyone can participate, regardless of their level of disability. 

Music Skills
This subject is a planned and creative use of music to attain and maintain health and well being, individuals participate in group sessions that will involve several different pieces of musical equipment which will allow creative expression to be revealed.

AV Production
This program teaches the basics of audio and video production. Each individual has a hands on experience in camera footage, audio overlay, recording and creating short videos. 

Adaptive Exercise Room
All individuals have different opportunities to exercise, from our fully furnished adaptive fitness center to specialized classes such as Pilates, aerobics, standing and chair exercises and group classes.

Dance Instruction
One room at CLD has been designed as a dance center and instruction for participants at all levels.
