Why Choose HARC

State and Federal regulations mandate that consumers of services offered to people with disabilities have the right to choose their service provider.

There are many choices available in the Tampa Bay Region, but few can match what HARC has to offer. With many service options, choices and locations for every need level, HARC is able to offer a step above the typical service provider.

For over 53 years, when a person is admitted into a HARC program, any program, he or she becomes part of the HARC family.  We are committed to using the wide range specialists and partners we have available to meet the person's needs.

If you are looking for a provider, why not consider one that:

  • is financially stable and will be there tomorrow and the next day and the day after that
  • has backup and emergency response planning built in
  • has a management team of seasoned pros with years of experience
  • has incredible support from our community, from volunteers to donations to grant funding
  • is blazing new trails with innovative and groundbreaking programs
  • has a truly comprehensive quality program
  • truly respects the rights of the individual, including the right to make one's own decisions
  • has a county-wide network of options rather than a one-size-fits-all approach
  • provides the full range of services, with many options within programs
  • has programs tailored to fit special needs of many types, such as Alzheimer's Disease

All of HARC’s programs have specific goals and measurable outcomes that have been carefully crafted by consumers and stakeholders. HARC’s objective in all aspects of its operations is to develop and implement consumer-centered programs and services and to partner with the community and stakeholders to ensure that people with disabilities have the resources and opportunities required to achieve their potential within the community.  HARC utilizes the latest technology and state of the art approaches to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of our services.

These approaches incorporate the following:

• A comprehensive Quality Management system using the framework developed by the Council on Quality and Leadership’s Quality Measures 2005.

• A customized, web-based clinical records system, developed in-house, that connects all locations and staff using a centralized and streamlined information management system. Every location and every program has a broadband connection to the internet and all employees have access.

• HARC is currently the first and only provider in the state of Florida to purchase and adopt the new web-based assessment tool for people with mental retardation developed by the American Association on Mental Retardation, in concert with researchers and participating implementers all over the nation and even internationally. This tool, called the Supports Intensity Scale or SIS, represents a lead forward in our field as it measures the supports needed for individuals in an objective and measurable way, and one that enables us to compare results with national percentiles.

• HARC’s Homelink program provides a groundbreaking model in which people with developmental disabilities are trained to provide chore services to the elderly, a need that is projected to increase dramatically in our state and nationally over the next 10 years.

• HARC is a leader in using partnerships with other organizations, individuals and companies in our community to accomplish common goals.

With solid service values, competent leadership, state of the art technology and strong support from others in our community, HARC is meeting the needs of people with disabilities in our community, and will continue this legacy and build on it in the future.  We invite any in the Tampa Bay community who need our help, or who wish to help others, to come see what HARC has to offer.
